Film Debut:  The Battle of Sullivan’s Island film will debut at an event at 6:00pm at the Charleston Library Society, which is located at 164 King Street.  The Charleston Library Society was founded in 1748, predating the American Revolution.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the improbable victory at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island on June 28, 1776, stunned the British and bolstered Patriot morale—heroes ranging from Col. William Moultrie and Sgt. William Jasper emerged from the battle, as well as state icons including the palmetto tree and blue flag with the white crescent.  But do South Carolinians today know much about this pivotal engagement?  To elevate interest and awareness of this battle on the eve of its 250th anniversary, South Carolina 250 has commissioned a new film designed to improve our appreciation of this event that we commemorate each year as Carolina Day.  Produced by Wide Awake Films, this new Battle of Sullivan’s Island film includes exciting live action sequences, sophisticated animated map displays, and other 3D animations designed to engage today’s audience.
